Don Broco Wreck Wembley (In A Good Way)

Don Broco are one of my favourite bands to see live, I first saw them back on their intimate show run for the release of Amazing Things.
They have such a strong catalogue and put on incredible shows, all of which give every member moments to shine. This was no different when headlining Wembley OVO Arena at the start of December.
They’ve been teasing the new album for a little while now and to be able to hear Disappear, Hype Man and Cellophane live, was truly something else, all it’s done is heighten the excitement, not only for the day the album actually drops, but their next tour, because if it goes that hard already, it can only get better.

Up until now, I’d never seen them perform at an arena, and there’s always a small feeling of not knowing how well an artist can fill a room that size with the energy that is easily captured in smaller, sweatier, more intimate shows – especially in this genre.
But, that being said, Don Broco smashed it. Everyone was screaming, jumping, moshing, and the band took full advantage of the space on stage. We were obviously treated to the famous Damiani stops (he should trademark that) during ‘Pretty’.
Magnolia Park, Yonaka and State Champs opened for them.
I hadn’t seen Magnolia Park before then, but they were brilliant.
Yonaka I had seen once before, opening for Palaye Royale a few years ago, they are so cool, I simply adore seeing female-fronted bands absolutely crush it and take up space in the industry, so to have “accidentally” seen them live twice, can only mean they need to be added to my music rotation.
Now, State Champs… they have been a band I have enjoyed for a very long time, I have seen them a handful of times over the years whenever they come to London, attended a listening party for Kings Of The New Age when it dropped, and actually met Rob at a Champs show a few years ago, it was an emotional whirlwind. So to have seen them announced on the lineup really gagged me. I’m now going to start advocating for a co-headline between Champs and Broco, and should it happen, you’ll find me front and centre, and you’ll have to drag me out kicking and screaming.

‘True Believers’ is a song from the new album, I can’t say much about it, other than it absolutely hits, and they made it work perfectly alongside ‘Uber’, as they seem to share similar underlying messages.
They performed ‘Further’ with Yonaka, which was such a beautiful rendition of the song, the addition of the feminine lead vocals made it feel such much softer, and a little more emotional than it already is.

Ultimately, the show was fantastic, as expected from a Don Broco show, Rob looked like he’d been plucked straight out of The Matrix, and the stage had a very industrial feel, which I think perfectly captures the vibe of the new album, especially considering the visuals of ‘Cellophane’. but what a way to round out my year of concerts!
