Djo Has ‘Total Control’ in London

Djo (aka Joe Keery) embarked on his first ever UK tour, finishing with 3 shows in London – which I’m almost certain were all sold out. That’s a pretty big feat for an artist to do on a first time tour.

I’d been waiting for this for such a long time, his music has always been on repeat, he has such a unique sound and has truly never missed. Decide is up there with my favourite albums to ever exist, from ‘Fool’ to ‘Half Life’, to of course the viral ‘End Of Beginning’, it hits on so many emotions and does it in such a synth-pop vibey way.

Djo announced the tour before dropping his latest album The Crux, which can be quite a risky move, but given his reputation as an artist, we all knew the album would hit all the right spots. The tour was bound to sell the amount of tickets it did.

I went to 2/3 of the London shows, June 5th & June 6th, with VIP on the 5th, and GA on the 6th.
The VIP queueing system at O2 Forum Kentish Town, was phenomenal. I’ve done my fair share of VIP queues over the years, and there’s always some kind of drama, stress or frustration somewhere in the process. The venue had set up a system that allowed VIP pass holders to get wristbands from 13:00 – 14:00, and then allowed them to leave the site until 18:00. It allowed people to rest, get ready, eat and hydrate before the show in the comfort of their own hotels, homes or just with a little more freedom. Staff members from Djo’s team made the process run smoothly which made the entire experience far more enjoyable.

Djo cut a few songs on the 5th (rumours were he was poorly), and I took the axing of ‘Fool’ very personally, but alas, redemption was had at the show the next day.

He has managed to craft the perfect setlist, it allowed for dancing, screaming, crying and going a little bit crazy (Flash Mountain I’m looking at you).
For his first time in London, he smashed it. London took to him really well, and to play 3 nights in Camden – the music capital of London, is such an incredible thing for an artist of his size to do.
Both shows were phenomenal, Keery’s vocals live sounded just as good as they do on the records. From his instrumental skills, ad-libs, and his little dances, he knows how to perform. I, for one, was completely enamoured by him, and his stage presence.

Post Animal supported Djo and they (not literally) blew the roof off the venue. They brought so much energy and even pulled Djo into their set to play a few songs. Rarely have I seen crowds so engaged in an opening act, and rarely have I seen an opening act get a crowd so excited and buzzed.
